WordPress liveblog to blog live • WordPress Help

The guys from Automattic just released the first version of the plugin Liveblog a system for blogging live without the need for external utilities for the live blogging as CoverItLive or similar, all from your own WordPress desktop.

At least that's the idea …

The plugin, which already you can download from the official repository or install from WordPress, announce to offer something that until now was only available as added payment for WordPress.com VIP blogs : a system for blogging live .

Its features are as follows:

  • Input updates from the same cover of your site, without the need to use the desktop.
  • Visitors to your live blogging will see the new ones tickets so au tomatic and instantaneous, without the need to update your browser window.
  • The authors of the site can drag and drop photos directly in the liveblog area, without having to use another browser tab or open another window (OUEAEAAA!)
  • It is not necessary to use a separate site to do live blogging, any entry, future or existing, can be a liveblog.

Once installed, you will not see much, well, you do not really see nothing almost. Simply, when creating or editing an entry you will find a new " metabox " in the editor that allows you to convert it to a " liveblog ". Simply check the box, publish the entry and start the magic … or prestidigitación that, according to the authors …

  • Collaboration: any registered user with writing and editing permits can update the entry and each update shows the author of it
  • Readers are notified when there is a new update.
  • New updates are highlighted in yellow.
  • The editor works as an HTML editor, for all purposes, even when dragging and dropping an image.

Here some captures of my experiments this afternoon …

And here as in theory it works, according to the captures and video of Automattic …

Pegas? [19659005] Well some, and fat, has at the moment, at least in my tests:

  • Does not work on the cover, only in the input display
  • In my tests, normal visitors (not registered) did not see the updates d the liveblog.
  • Works from WordPress 3.5, although I've tried it in version 3.4.1 and it seems to work, there are now insurmountable errors, I suppose for the WordPress version, as visitors do not see the updates and that the content of the updates of the mode " liveblog " in the entry (?) is not saved. This last I hope it is not its usual mode of operation but it would be a truño.
  • The live editor of the site does not adapt well to issues with sidebar, leaving it rather ugly for the author, so better to choose a template without a bar side, full width if it bothers you.
  • You can not do live blogging from the "normal" WordPress editor "
  • If you edit the entry, the updates of the" liveblog "mode are lost, it should be saved as" normal input " "So that the updates are saved (sic).

So, that's it, the idea is pistonuda but for now, until WordPress 3.5 comes out or they improve it, unusable . And, honestly, I do not quite understand why Automattic has released the plugin, with version number 1.0, and with the WordPress 3.5 requirement, without WordPress 3.5 being available. Nor do I understand that WordPress.com VIP costs the " addon " $ 500 a month and this is free download. Are mysteries that I can not understand .

Note (September 5, 2012 @ 21: 00): Version 1.1 has been released that incorporates full WordPress support 3.4.1 , fixes the preview and compatibility with all permanent link configurations. I have tried again and now if the normal visitors see the updates (you can check it here: https://ayudawp.com/cms/evento-en-directo/), but it is still strange that when you uncheck it is a live blog post does not save anything, only "reappears" by marking it again as a liveblog.

WordCamp Spain 2009 – José Fontainhas

12:13 – For WordPress version 2.9 or 3.0, WordPress and WordPress MU will be integrated.

12:10 – In 2 months GlotPress will be the platform for translation of all Automattic projects. In fact, all WordPress.org will be migrated briefly to BuddyPress and groups and forums will be created for each country, with translation groups, etc.

12:04 – There is also no es.forums.wordpress. org even being Spain of great forera tradition. And the process is just as simple as with the translation of the software.

12:03 – There are no owners of the translation, you just have to enter the list of polygots and request access.

11: 59 – There is a first problem, and it is the official translation that goes in 2.7.1, although there are people who do updated translations. In fact, the Spanish translation of WordPress.com is the second most complete, not so with the official desynchronization of the WordPress.org translation

11:55 – José Fontainhas, responsible for Automattic for internationalization management is going to talk about the WordPress Spanish community.

WordCamp Spain 2009 – José Conti

11:19 – We are told in the official blog of WordCamp Spain 2.009 that are not yet available videos by Jane Wells and Matt Mullenweg.

11:11 – Due to technical problems, the BuddyPress workshop is a bit longer. José has taught us how to customize the appearance of the different sections and configure the WP social network correctly.

10:53 – It's a pity that the server keeps giving problems and José Conti is getting complicated with BuddyPress, nothing to do with how easy it really is.

10:40 – I put some photos of the attendees …

10:35 – Installing BuddyPress "old style", by ftp. Currently, when installing BuddyPress, bbPress is also automatically installed in the standard package. We would only have to activate it in the BuddyPress Forums interface. José reminds us that we do not have to activate the Social Network theme, since it activates itself by default.

10:30 – Learning how to protect our MU with the settings of "User's not allowed names"

] 10:15 – Fixed the problem resumes the workshop where it was, in the process of installing WordPress MU.

10:05 – Small bug in the database of José Conti's workshop, which is solved directly online. It is a bitch that these things happen but it is sometimes inevitable. Waiting for me to fix it to continue.

10:00 – After the first steps of downloading WordPress MU and creating a database, José tells us – to my stupid question – that it does not matter to install in subdomain or folders, it's a matter of taste.

09:30 – Before the scheduled start José Conti's paper from Buddypress-es actually a BuddyPress installation workshop. It's a shame that I did not get a greeting from Jane Wells and Matt Mullenweg.

WordCamp Spain 2008 – Live Blogging

And with this intervention, those that I do not participate in end, because mine is better than others.

As far as I can see, almost all the fronts mediating plugins work in your company, not requiring most of the programming. the times. Personally I think it is lighter to offer other types of alternatives but … if there are plugins, why not use them ?. I do not praise the taste on all occasions but I understand the simplicity it really offers.
18:15
We are showing other plugins to limit the WordPress administration, like TinyMCE Advanced or substitution of the custom fields or the plugin More Fields or Flutter, Podpress and others ..
18:01
He tells us, under his experience, what WordPress 2.7 brings to the creation of websites for the client. In this respect the plugin called Scissors which adds the clipping functionality in the same WordPress image loader, is very interesting.
17:50
Rude tells us that in his company what they try mainly to make easy the difficult, for it they mainly use CSS classes to make a simple and fast loading design.
17:40 – WordPress as CMS by Rude Mortenssen

16:50 [19659004] It is suggested that we think about whether Automattic will release additional services such as Intense Debate in the GPL. Personally I think not, just as they have not done with the rest of services that have not bought, and I hope to be wrong.

16:40
Luis explains the different developments related to the management of comments (Disqus , CoComments, the same Intense Debate acquired by Automattic)

Among the innovations of Intense Debate 2 are the integration with widget, social networks, syndication and much more. Luis also reviews the acquisitions / development of tools that have been integrated into WordPress (Akismet, Gravatar, bbPress, BuddyPress, Pingomatic, PollDaddy, WordPress.com, Intense Debate)
16:25
Luis Rull elucubra about whether the WordPress system will be integrated into Wikis, social networks, streaming services or it will be the other way around, integrating all types of services in WordPress

The paper by Luis Rull and begins Rafa Poveda on the comments in WordPress.
16:00 – Mecus Paper on Comments

Based on the paper on the difference between people commenting and the new commenting system based on WordPress 2.7 in which the conversation is really encouraged. Very good about Algorithm of Darth Vader (search for father)

12:35
End of presentation and step to requests and questions
12:30
Ante respectable questions, Carlos encourages us to use WordPress Mu, remembering that you can import the current WordPress DB to a new installation of WordPress Mu, that the same themes work, and "almost" all the plugins (this almost disagrees, no there are so many that are perfect)

12:25
Carlos proposes us uses of Buddypress and the suitability of using WordPress Mu with this system, namely:

  • Internal networks (business, education) [19659028] Management users in Mu
  • Good support export / import XML
  • Community
  • and, above all …
  • Plugins and styles for Buddypress
  • If you know how to program for WordPress you know how to do it for BuddyPress

12:20
I ask Carlos Mantero if notices of the messages are received private, as with the request of friends, etc. and still can not confirm it. Alex from Blogestudio, who are already working on the project he was talking about yesterday ( Pequelia ), can not confirm it either. Either nobody uses it or it is not yet available
12:15
BuddyPress is a great plugin that at its core has group creation modules, blogs, private messaging, status updates, etc.

I'm late, thanks to the non-strike of pilots and, unfortunately I've missed the networking, the talk of Miguel Serrabassa Lafont and even coffee. However, I arrived in time to greet Raul Illana and Luis Rull among others and, of course, attend the presentation by Carlos Mantero on BuddyPress which I'll start commenting …
