Visual resource map of the WordPress template hierarchy

The WordPress template hierarchy is the basis for the creation of WordPress themes and in Codex there is a good amount of resources available to know how to create themes and modify them, but not always navigate between pages WordPress.org is the best option, right?

Perhaps for this reason Rami Abraham was bundled and created a visual resource map in which you can see all the templates and dependencies between them, with the plus that each of the elements links to its corresponding page in the WordPress Codex thus creating a wonderful resource for developers and WordPress lovers in general.

map of the hierarchy of templates hosted on GitHub, of course admits making bifurcations (or forks as you prefer) so I've encouraged myself and created the version in Spanish to generate l enjoyment of all.

If you dare, you can collaborate on the official page of WPhierarchy or in the Spanish branch of HierarchyWP .

Automatically create pages when activating a WordPress theme

Sometimes, when you create a WordPress theme for a client it can be more than interesting that, just activate it, automatically create pages that have a special utility.

Whether they are useful pages for the specific topic (imagine secure payment pages, or catalog of products or whatever is appropriate to the subject) or a page of information about your client, it is often a good idea, and a plus of quality, that when you activate your theme the client sees that he has something else just to use it .

There are many topics that come with custom page templates, but this is one more step, because you can create both, a custom page template and even a full page already with its specialized content .

Also, it's very easy, you just have to create a function in the file functions.php of the subject like the following, you just have to modify the title of the page and its personalized content to your liking :

But if you have pages that do contain content then you would have to add another conditional so that it does not show titles and subpage extracts in that case , in this way:

Now the safest option will always be to create a custom page template ] whose loop has the first code and you choose that template for your "mother" pages.

Gleam, an authentic beauty of WordPress theme

You will know by now that I am a fan of the WordPress themes of Elegant Themes . Not only because for $ 39 a year you have at your disposal a huge amount of precious themes, plus all the updates and new topics of each year (at least 5 new ones a year), but because Nick Roach is a great designer with a special taste in the details something that I greatly appreciate.

Note: this entry contains affiliate links for which the author charges commissions

But it is that with the subject new that has released yesterday, Gleam has broken the molds. It is a WordPress theme that is not valid for all kinds of uses, in fact it is specialized for places where the image is the most important that is, fashion, photography, decoration, those things. And it is so much the taste for details, it is so beautiful that although I have never spoken of any subject in particular of Elegant Themes this time I could not let it go.

Has all the virtues of Nick's themes: fully configurable panel, shortcodes for almost everything, automatic thumbnails, compatible with all WordPress 3.x novelties, page templates, various color schemes, etc., etc. But it is that a simple glance and falls in love .

The transparent blocks the smooth transitions when turning the page, the absolutely "elegant" menus "the edges of each perfect box . Come on, an absolute beauty waiting for your products to sell or promote them in the best possible way. I highly recommend it, like many others that have Elegant Themes and that I usually use, but not here specifically.

Well, enough talk, it is best to enjoy it in the demo and read its characteristics .

If you dare to register to enjoy all those beauties you can do it in the registration page (they also have an affiliate system), to you it's the same and it gives me something for a little whim.

Insert a WordPress page into another

Look where I have not yet agreed to share this code, and see that it has been requested times. Let's see, the situation is if you want to insert a page inside another, for example, put a page of file in a normal page template, or also if you want, within loop of a page at the end of your text leave the content of another, prepared for the purpose.

If it is your case, or any other that you can think of, what you have to do is the following:

1. Create a duplicate file page.php

Locate the file page.php of your active theme and copy it with another name, doublepage.php or whatever you want.

2. You edit the newly created page template

You edit the newly created file and you change the Template name to one of your liking. Once this is done, you substitute the loop for this one:

Where the IDE is the ID number of the page you want to embed in the current one, the number you'll see in the status bar at pass the curs or by the page on the Desktop page screen.

Save the changes!

That's it, now you can use the new page template to insert a page into another one to your liking and necessity.

List of posts without page template

If you want to show a list of posts published in a post or page you do not need to create a special template to show them but there is a simpler, looser solution for all types of user profiles. [19659002] This solution goes through a plugin (yes, do not jump on my delicate neck), but it does its job very well and gives you a lot of control over what will be displayed and how it will be done.
[19659002] If you take advantage of the possibilities of the template tag get posts you have many options, and if you create special CSS classes you will have some very nice summaries.
