Movable Type 5 throws in the towel and copies to WordPress

Okay, I know it's an evil, but it's that the recent release of Movable Type 5 brings us a real clone of the WordPress desktop, but not only that.

It seems to me or Six Apart has thrown in the towel and follows Microsoft's dynamics of " if you can not improve what the competition does copy it ".

WordPress dominates in the Top 100 • WordPress Help

In a recent research conducted by Royal Pingdom you can see how WordPress is the platform chosen by 32 of the 100 blogs of Top 100 of Technorati both in the version hosted on as in own server. Of those 32 blogs 27 of them are on their own server.

Behind is the blog platform of Six Apart, Typepad with no less than 16 blogs located in the Top 100.

Ante this number Matt is really optimistic pointing out that if done in January 2010, WordPress will occupy between 40 and 50% of the Top 100. And what do you think, do you see it as clear as Matt?

Movable Type becomes social

You know that although the theme of Help WordPress is specific to WordPress I like that you know how the competition works, and if they have something to contribute or improve.

This time it has been Six Apart who has moved file and submitted Motion a kind of server application with which to create something similar to a social network that mixes microblogging aggregator social profiles and much more.

Unfortunately, this application can only be tested for free while it is in phase ßeta as from January it will only be available to users, paid, of Movable Type Pro a low error my humble point of view

Regarding Motion e It's a weird spawn. It has an editor of the blog section, with which to publish text, images and video, but not only that, you can also decide to publish content from external applications such as Flickr YouTube and Twitter . In addition, and this if I liked, offers in the same package support for Facebook Connect Google Friend Connect and OpenID which means that you have from the first moment of the possibility of making community and connecting to the outside world, facilitating the socialization of your space.

Well, summarizing I will say that the concept seems interesting, although with a certain whiff to BuddyPress although with improvements such as the integration of socialization and authentication services, and it is a pity that it is not an open and free development. If you want you can have a look at the test site that they have created or even download the ßeta to test it.

Follow the row between Six Apart and Automattic • WordPress Help

It was clear that the thing was not going to be in the puya that Matt sent to the guys of Movable Type ]and it did not take long Anil Dash to give the reply everything has to be said in a conciliatory tone … and commercial (very well done, yes sir). Without entering into discussions points out the improvements that Movable Type Pro incorporates as social network incorporation in the system and diverts some attention at the end (badly) sticking with the recent security problems he had WordPress

Well, now skip the link of Lloyd getting reed if the same one that parodied the video of Six Apart (you can see it in the post of Anil ), and sends a good barrage to Anil Dash accusing him of selling as new ideas that are already old of joining the BuddyPress car pretending to be the first to have had the idea and, also, sticking with the issue of the robustness of both systems, giving reasons why WordPress is a software more capable when it comes to withstanding large avalanches of traffic. [19659004] In passing reminds him that, despite what goes BuddyPress is not Vaporware but a community system that is already being tested and demonstrating its capacity … and before the new announced features of Movable Type Pro

But the thing does not end there because in another post the same; Lloyd, attacks Six Apart rather against a comment in the previous post in which a reader questioned the strength of WordPress for saving passwords as plain text. [19659004] There Lloyd enters to defend the fact that WordPress does not use the protocol, according to the unsafe, WSSE as Six Apart does. Well, the row is being served … we will continue to report : mrgreen:

Typepad offers its own Akismet

Six Apart the creator of the blogging platform Typepad has just released the first Beta of its control application SPAM in the comments available for other Blogging platforms such as Movable Type or WordPress, the application is called TypePad Antispam (no, they have not been complicated). You already have another Akismet this one of the competition and that, although compatible with the API of this, it is not Open Source (crass error).
